Cheers!

fred-flair-cheers.jpg

Don’t look now, but the holidays are approaching fast! I just noticed that my first set of holiday cards I made a few years back are available online at Fredflare.com.

I have 2 more card sets that I’ll post a bit later, but if you have 16 pals or co-workers… this greeting tin might come in handy. You can also reuse the tin container for storing ornament hooks or dog treats. Happy (early) Holidays!

Spelling Change

a_meshon_aaron.jpg

My letter ” A” is included in the new Spelling Change website.  Have a look as there are some amazing artists and designers that lent there time to this cause. It is pretty cool to see how creative teh solutions were for making a statement with just a letter. I was always a horrible speller in grade school but I do indeed know how to spell change.. I’d like to start with buying a vowel please!

It was nice to see the shout out from Ilana Kohn @ Lost at E Minor about my work. It is little things like that, that make me continue to love my job and not feel so isolated in my studio all day ( no offense Chubu). Thanks Ilana!

Vote For Change

 meshon-obama.jpg

I was elated to be involved in part of the Obama campaign! I illustrated this image for a series of posters, cards and stickers to be distributed across the USA. Even though time was very limited It was one of the most meaningful jobs I have ever had. So please friends.. make sure you are registered to vote in less then a month.

Fall INto the Gap

It is back to school time, and I remember fondly going to the Gap in the mall in the late 1980’s to get my yearly corduroys and multi colored socks. You can’t find as many amazing pastel colored socks there anymore… as this is not 1987, but I just learned that some of my products are being sold at the stores and online! I popped into the Flatiron district store in NYC over the weekend and not only saw some of my puzzles, but also a shopping Ethan Hawk! Sweet!

Print Regional Design Awards!

I was so pleased to learn that 2 of my illustrations for Kaplan’s study guides have been included in PRINT’s Regional Design Annual 2008. Out of 20,000 entries only 50 regional finalists were chosen , so I am really honored. I completed these 2 covers for Kaplan’s ACT and SAT study guides using employees from Kaplan as the models, and since I “failed” the SAT in high school I was proud to finally have my revenge!

RISD Map 2

risd-fpo-map.jpg

I just finished the RISD campus map! It was fun to spend so much time staring and coloring a Providence, Rhode Island that I remember from my college days, and am really glad that the usage might be a bit broader then the originally planned. If only they had frozen lemonade in Brooklyn.. i might not miss Providence so much in the summer.

Orphan Works Bill

1_ipa_logo.gif

Hello friends. I wanted to post a link to information on the “Orphan Works” Bill. Please take a look here to see how this very scary and real law, that has almost been passed, would take away the rights of illustrators, artists, photographers, writers and most creative people. I was lucky enough to attend a meeting in New York last Friday that was put together by the US Small Business Administration. I hope we can all fight together to oppose this career and creative affecting law.

RISD Map 1

aaronthumbnail.jpg

I am currently working on a new campus map for my college- RISD. I had the pleasure of being shown around campus last week, and I got to see the new museum, and my favorite little city…Providence, Rhode Island. It was a nice hot and humid May day and it reminded me of the Rhode Island summers from my college years.. Del’s frozen lemonaid and sleeping in my car because it had air conditioning! I will post the map when it is done next month but for now it is in sketch stage.

Budget Travel JUMBO Pullout !

Budget Travel Pullout May 2008

I have a big project that was just published in Frommer’s Budget Travel Magazine. I completed 14 illustrations for a mini handbook included in the current May 2008 issue. I loved that they also asked me questions for the contributors page…like what is the best airport that I have ever been to. You’ll just have to pick up a copy to find out (hint: it shares the same name as my studio assistant).
